this week, ailsa’s travel theme is work.
in the heart of the old city of jerusalem is an ancient marketplace packed with shops and stalls selling and buying all sorts of stuff. also is the via dolorosa (way of suffering), the path that Jesus walked, carrying his cross, on the way to his crucifixion. tucked randomly are churches, synagogues, mosques, museums and other structures of historical importance.
mood in this walled city is enticed by the cacophony of interesting aromas from spices, coffees and food and echoes of music, chants and plain conversations. and there’s the common practice of haggling adding excitement to the pulse.
throngs of tourists and locals swarm the narrow streets and alleys of the old city. but for others, the shops owners and vendors, it is work as usual. for my entry, here’s an herb vendor, seemingly unmindful to the noise.
