bantay bell tower

a short stop in bantay was a visit to the famous 16th century bantay church and belfry. named after its patron saint augustine of hippo, the church is known as the shrine of our lady of charity (nuestra señora de la caridad) whose miraculous image is fixed at the altar.

nearby is the bell tower, beautifully perched on a hilltop which served as a watchtower back in the spanish colonial era. this red brick structure with original bells still hanging on top is rich in history adding to its present charm. from the top commands a panoramic view of nearby surroundings including the city of vigan and cordillera mountain range from afar.
