weekly photo challenge: room

here’s my entry to the weekly photo challenge: room – a grand ball room that opens up to the balcony overlooking paoay lake.

called the malacañang of the north, this two-story mansion of spanish and ilocano influence, was the official residence of the former philippine president, ferdinand marcos and his family in ilocos norte. it is reported that it was built as a gift to marcos on his 60th birthday from his wife, imelda. this piece of philippine history has now become a tourist attraction offering guests a glimpse in the life of one of the most powerful and influencial families in the country.

Love this feature lolaWi! It really looks so grand!

  4. So elegant. The Marcos couple really knew how to spend money.

the former first lady is known for beauty and elegance. and yes, they spend money with total abandon! it’s no secret that she loved to shop, unapologetically shelling out millions of usd in a single shopping spree 🙂

What a glamour palace! Beautiful capture, Lola!

It wasn’t that well-kept when I last visited it. There were several fighting roosters (Texas) kept on the ground, the swimming pool was green with algae, the eaves were falling apart, the bathrooms didn’t work. But now that Imee Marcos is the governor, Imelda and Bong Bong are senators, they must have the funds now to maintain it better.

  7. Vivien says:

Will make sure I see this grand palace when I go home. Probably better looking than Malacanang?

  8. Mabel Kwong says:

Looks like a great room to relax in, with a great view too. It look so spotless and neat, not a chair out of place and not a speck of dust in sight. If I were there, I don’t think I would want to sit anywhere or touch anything 😀 Great photo for this week’s challenge.
