palm springs aerial tram

another desert fun was aboard the palm springs aerial tramway, the world’s largest rotating tramcar.  it’s a twelve-minute ride from the desert floor to the near top of the san jacinto mountains.  the climb was exhilarating though a bit scary, ending at the mountain station 8,516 feet above sea level.  it’s 25° cooler,  fresh alpine scent, pristine wilderness and breathtaking views.

the mountain station is a three-story facility with cocktail lounge, restaurants, gift shop and observation decks.  outdoor activities include hiking, camping and guided nature walk.

the tramcar’s rotating floor is so cool, you get to see all the views in all directions without leaving your spot.  descending was just as thrilling as the tram gets close to the cliffs.  and because it was sundown, the open sonoran valley was glowing against blue skies.  just spectacular.

never heard of such until we were there. and of course we were holding on the railing but realized we have to let go because the tram floor rotates. 🙂 it was so neat! thanks so much, Sue!

thanks so much Aletta. these are the only pictures i was able to take. i had a low-bat camera and once up there, the battery died. but the experience was really great and fun! 🙂

  5. I remember going up in that. We were so amazed at the change in temperature when we arrived at the top. Down below was hot and humid, and on top, was icy cold. I loved the rotating tram car, and can see that your little grandson was quite taken with the experience too. 🙂

it was really cold up there and we’re glad we brought sweaters with us. TJ didn’t know what to expect but he was such a good sport. it was quite an experience for all of us! thanks Sylvia! 🙂

What a view! Looks exciting. Rotating tramcar means the floor you are sitting on is actually rotating so that after one rotation you have had 360 degree view? Fun stuff!

Oh, I would love to ride this and look down on the beautiful scenery down…I enjoy riding the cable car too, there is one in Vancouver, that rides to the highest peak in Vancouver and comes down to a sky resort…simply awesome, up there!!!
